Collection: MARIPOSITE
Mariposite is a mineral that is a chromium-rich variety of mica, which imparts an attractive array of pale green streaks of Fuchsite to the generally white dolomitic marble in which it is commonly found. It is the chromium that gives it its distinctive green color. The term "mariposite" also refers to the stone in which the green mica is found. Mariposite formed when the rock serpentinite, which was derived from the Earth's mantle, became altered under pressure by mineral-laden hot (650°F) water.
